Original painting- 'The Fisherman’ This painting originated from my black-and-white expired film photograph. Which depicts a winding river at Ogmore beach, with the seafront lying behind the viewer’s perspective. The composition is led by the curve of the river, which draws the eye through the landscape, acting as both a visual guide and focal point. Surrounding hills sweep across the frame in softened, abstracted forms, while the sky opens into a broad area of negative space above. Highlights soften the image. At the centre of the image, a small, almost easily overlooked figure stands beside fishing equipment - the mundane detail that gives the work its title, “The Fisherman.” The simplicity of the title contrasts with the atmospheric depth of the image, grounding this piece in a specific moment of observation. Additional small figures appear in the foreground, adding subtle narrative without disrupting the overall stillness.
