About Me.
I’m a 19-year-old artist, and I’ve been creating artwork and selling commissioned work since I was around 15. Art has been a constant in my life - something I’ve pursued with genuine dedication, looking to expand my skills, refine my style and develop my own voice. My work is rooted in a painterly style, driven by emotion, passion and personal experience. I’m interested in creating pieces that are quiet, honest, and somewhat ambiguous - work that invites the audience to reflect, slow down, and bring their own perspective into it. I aim to create art that holds attention gently, rather than demanding it. I have a strong appreciation for black-and-white in both painting and photography. Stripping away colour removes distraction and allows the subject to stand on its own, often creating a sense of calm, stillness, and clarity. This sense of tranquility being s recurring theme throughout my work. Alongside painting, I practice photography, mostly using film. I’m drawn to the texture, grain, and timeless quality it holds - something more intentional and considered. Commissions are a central part of my practice. I value the connection with each client and the process of creating something personal and lasting - a piece that holds meaning beyond the surface. My work has been exhibited in an art gallery, marking an important step in my development as an artist and allowing me to share my work in a more formal context. I was also recognised in a competition for a body of work that reflected my interest in contrast, tone, and experimental expression. In light of my strong desire to produce art, I created this platform to share my work more widely - in addition to my social media. My focus remains the same: to continue growing, refining my craft, and creating work that feels honest, thoughtful, and enduring. Therefore, I present 'The Lost Art' - By Matilda.
